Let's Talk Expectations
Whether you book a two hour or eight hour package with me, you will be treated like royalty regardless. All my couples receive sneak peaks within 24 hours - if not the same day. These will only be shared on socials with your approval. Most couples love to use these sneaks as their way to officially announce their marriage, and I love that! But some prefer to keep in their little bubble and I love that too. What my client’s say goes. Your privacy is my utmost priority.
Galleries are delivered via an online gallery in one lot or in stages for my bigger packages. I like to keep my clients in the loop and allow them to see my progress. I find this lessens the anxiety for my brides as they can see how amazing their photos are and keeps them patient as I work behind the scenes.
For my elopements and two hour sessions, you can expect a 2-4 week wait for a completed gallery to be delivered.
For my four, six or eight hour bookings, your wait will be 4-8 weeks with bridal portraits and the ceremony being the first stages to be delivered.
Natural or Artificial Lighting - Let's Discuss
ceremonies deserve to be interuption free
When it comes to your ceremony, you don’t want your photographer using flash as that will distract not only you but your guests. Natural light or continuous artificial light is the way to go. Some venues may use inexpensive LED lighting which can interfere with most cameras and cause a less than desirable outcome. For indoor ceremonies, I’ll want to scope it out first, if possible, to see if I need extra lighting.
For evening ceremonies, I recommend arranging additional lighting to ensure the bridal party and guests are all in a well-lit space and can safely move around. You may want to arrange this with a party hire company or your chosen venue, or I can bring my powered lighting but please note set up will be done as part of your photography coverage.
For outdoor ceremonies, natural light is your best friend. However, it’s important to steer clear of patchy lighting and to take the sun’s position into account during the ceremony. No one wants to be squinting into the sun on such a memorable occasion!
Should your outdoor ceremony run behind schedule, I’ll have my flash at the ready. Please keep in mind that it will only be enough lighting to ensure the bridal party is the centre of attention and may take me a little time to set up. Please note that they are not suitable for setup in heavy wind conditions.
Rain or Shine - Let's Talk Weather Plans
unpredictable weather? yeah, that's australia for you.
When planning your wedding, it’s easy to imagine everything going perfectly, with clear skies and beautiful light. However, weather can be unpredictable, and having a solid wet weather plan is essential for ensuring your day runs smoothly, no matter what. By thinking ahead and preparing for the possibility of rain, you’ll save yourself stress on the day and give yourself the peace of mind to enjoy every moment.
A wet weather plan doesn’t just mean moving indoors — it’s about making sure every aspect of your day can be adapted seamlessly. For example, your ceremony location might need an alternative sheltered option, your reception space may need rainproof access for guests, and we may need to get creative with portrait locations. If you have a plan in place, we can quickly pivot, ensuring no precious time is lost and that your photos still capture the beauty and emotion of the day.
Communication is key here! As your photographer, I’m here to help make the most of any situation, but it’s important that I’m aware of your wet weather arrangements. Whether it’s a backup venue, access to umbrellas, or a specific indoor location for photos, sharing these details ahead of time allows me to prepare and scout locations in advance. This way, I can focus on capturing stunning images of your day without missing a beat, rain or shine.
Remember, some of the most magical photos can come from embracing the weather — soft light, romantic rain shots, and unique indoor backdrops can make for unforgettable memories. So, let’s plan ahead and make sure that no matter what the weather brings, your wedding day is nothing short of perfect!
When Should Photography Coverage Start?
let's narrow down your timeline
For getting-ready coverage, I typically capture the groom and groomsmen first. They should be dressed, without shoes or ties, when I arrive. I capture candid photos of them doing their final touches and finish with some fun portraits of them all together.
I then head around to see the bride. I like to arrive when the bridesmaids have finished their hair and makeup, and the bride is around halfway through her makeup application. Of course, this timing can be adjusted to fit your specific needs and preferences.
I’ll check in and then begin with photographing your flat lay details, such as invitations, jewellery, or other special items. Then, I’ll move on to capture candid moments of the bride during the final touches of her makeup and document her and the bridesmaids looking their best before they get into their wedding attire.
Next, I’ll photograph key moments like the bride’s dress being laced, shoes being put on, and any finishing touches like perfume or jewellery. I’ll also capture portraits of the bride and the bridal party before we head off to the ceremony.
If your coverage starts with the ceremony, I’ll arrive approximately 30 minutes before to set up, introduce myself to the celebrant, and capture those special pre-ceremony details, such as; chair decorations, signage, and guests mingling as they arrive. Once the bridal party arrives, the magic truly begins, and I’ll be there to document every moment.
First Look - Yes or No?
Having a first look before the ceremony offers several advantages but should my bride and groom prefer to keep things traditional, or opt for a first touch instead, that’s totally fine! This is your wedding and it will be a beautiful day regardless if you include this or not.
For those having a first look, it gives you more time for intimate couple photos in natural light without the pressure of time constraints later. Say the family photos take longer than planned or we are behind schedule, we won’t be as likely to run out of light during any sunset portraits.
This special moment is just for the two of you, providing a chance to connect and share your excitement without distractions.
Additionally, it gives you the flexibility to capture all couple and bridal party photos beforehand when everyone is looking their best,
Lastly, it streamlines your timeline, reducing waiting time for guests and allowing them to dive right into the celebration alongside you once the family photos are done. Then the last thing is a handful of sunset portraits and you’re back to enjoying your reception.
Preparing the Special Details
Wedding flatslays
Wedding flat lays capture details arranged in a flat, organized format. They narrate the story of your wedding day and showcase your theme and style. Typically photographed from above, these images emphasize symmetry and texture, making for a beautiful introduction to the wedding album.
These can be items such as;
- Invitations, RSVP’s, Timelines, Menus
- Engagement and Wedding Rings
- Bouquets, Boutonniere and Florals
- Vow Books and Ring Box
- Love Letters or Significant Mementos
- Extra Ribbon or Fabric from your Wedding
- Earrings, Bracelets or Heirlooms
- Something Borrowed, Something Blue
- Hair Accessories or Veil
- Wedding Shoes, Hats or Ties
- Perfume and Cologne
- Personalised or Monogramed Items
- Seasonal or Themed Decor, e.g. Shells
All I need is a flat tidy space to work, whether that’s your bed, kitchen table, wood or tiled floor - the choice is yours.
Preparing for Getting Ready Photos
consider the vibe you're going for - light and airy? homey?
The getting-ready moments are some of the most special and intimate parts of your wedding day. These photos capture the excitement, anticipation, and beautiful details that set the tone for the rest of the day.
Your getting ready location could be your own home, your families, friends, the salon or even a hotel room. Be sure to choose a space with plenty of natural light and keep it as tidy as possible. I’ll always bring a flash along to ensure we have the best lighting possible, but we don’t want to be trying to tidy or move things on the day. Planning ahead is key. Consider having your makeup and hair done facing a window or in a well lit area so they have the best area to work in. Also think of a mirror or a window where you can have your portraits done, as well as a space to sit to put on your wedding shoes.
Designate an area to gather meaningful items, such as your dress, shoes, accessories, and any sentimental keepsakes. These details will be highlighted in the lay-flat photos. Having everything ready allows me to work efficiently and gives you more time to relax and soak in the moment. Surround yourself with people who make you feel calm and happy, some snacks and drinks and watch the magic unfold!
Unplugged Ceremonies
for that distraction free ceremony
An unplugged ceremony is a wonderful way to ensure that your wedding remains a heartfelt and distraction free moment.
By kindly asking guests to put away their phones and cameras, you create an environment where everyone can be fully present, focusing on the emotions and meaning of the day rather than capturing it themselves.
This also allows me, as your photographer, to work without obstructions, ensuring I can capture clear, beautiful images of your ceremony without phones or tablets in the frame. Please keep in mind that removing phones from guests' hands isn’t something I include in my package and would be at an additional cost. Feel free ask me to politely tell anyone on their phone to put it away, I’d gladly oblige.
Consider including a note in your invitations or having your celebrant announce the unplugged policy before the ceremony begins. It’s a small request that makes a big difference in preserving the intimacy of your special moment and also ensures your family don’t announce before you do.
Organising Group Portraits
preparation goes a long way!
Group photos are an essential part of your wedding day, capturing the love and joy shared with your family and friends. To ensure this part of your day runs smoothly, a little preparation can go a long way! Start by creating a list of must-have group combinations ahead of time, prioritizing the most important people first. Share this list with me before the wedding so I can guide the process efficiently.
If you don't have an MC available, assigning a family member or member of the bridal party as a “photo wrangler” can also be incredibly helpful — they’ll assist in gathering people and keeping everything on schedule. Timing is key, so it's best we opt for group photos immediately after the ceremony when everyone is already gathered. I typically start with a photo of everyone first, and then break off into smaller groups.
We then have the couple stand front and centre, and usher in group after group as quick as possible to avoid fatigue as it can be a lot of standing. If the weather isn't ideal or we run behind schedule, we can always capture more group portraits at the reception.
With a plan in place, we’ll capture all the important shots while keeping the energy fun and stress-free! And we will be sure not to miss anyone!
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you use a second shooter?
I haven’t in the past, but I’d be happy to source one for you at an additional cost should you wish and can provide you with a quotation.
Do you have backup equipment?
Absolutely! Your wedding is too important not to be prepared. I bring two camera bodies, both with dual memory cards as well as on camera flash and multiple off camera flashes. I also come prepared with extra batteries, an assortment of lenses and wet weather gear - ready for (almost) anything!
How do travel fees work for out-of-town weddings?
For weddings over 100km from Gladstone, I charge a base rate per km and detail the travel fees in your quotation. Should you change locations in the lead up to your big day, I will provide you with an invoice for any additional charges as detailed in your wedding contract.
Do you offer albums or prints?
I surely do! I have an online print store set up right in your gallery for any image prints, or if you would like to arrange the purchase of any art prints or photobooks, we can use my premium supplier. I get some nice discounts that I pass on to my clients and have a variety of photobook samples in my studio ready for viewing.
