Hi! I'm Gabriella - Aka Gab

I'm the face, camera wrangler, and memory maker behind The Gift of the Gab Photography. I'm not usually one to toot my own horn (okay, maybe just a tiny toot), but if you're after someone who can snap the magic and make you laugh mid-photo — I’m your gal.

Based in Gladstone, I offer affordable, high-quality photography that’s all about you. Whether it's those blink-and-you-miss-it newborn snuggles, chaotic family cuddles, once-in-a-lifetime “I do’s,” or steamy confidence-boosting boudoir sessions in my moody little home studio, I'm here to turn your moments into memories you'll actually want to print out and brag about.

I’m obsessed with setting the perfect mood with some creative lighting techniques, love a bit of organised chaos, and fully believe that a good belly laugh is the best accessory in any photo. If you're after someone who lives for positive vibes, captures the real stuff and lives to create art in the form of creative double exposures — let's chat.

Why I became a

Professional photographer

Well, long story short… In 2021, my second-born son arrived at just 24 weeks gestation. Overnight, I went from working as a sleep technician and website developer to being a full-time carer. Once he finally came home, I was left struggling to find a way to support my family. With the addition of back-to-back surgeries in our journey to expand our family — working just wasn’t an option.

Then, in Feb of 2023, I experienced my second pregnancy loss. I was denied photography services due to my son’s gestation at birth, and it was in that moment I saw just how much our community lacked compassionate support during loss. So, I made the decision to independently offer end-of-life and bereavement photography — to give other families the care, dignity, and memories they deserve during life’s hardest moments.

Becoming my own boss also gave me the flexibility to support my family, work around our unique needs, and finally contribute financially — all while doing something I absolutely love and giving back to the community.

How long have I been doing photography

It all started back in 2008 when I was gifted my first decent digital camera. I spent weeks wandering around the farm, snapping anything and everything — and ended up entering my favourite landscape shot in the local show. I took out second prize and walked away as the proudest 14-year-old you’ve ever seen.

In 2010, I joined a photography and stop motion animation course right before heading off to Italy, and my love for photography just kept growing.

In 2016 I started capturing family moments and the heartbreaking last birthday with my Pop before his passing - those images I will forever cherish.

By 2018, I’d saved up for my first professional DSLR — and that was the moment I knew I wanted to take this passion and turn it into something more.

Fun Facts about me

I'm a huge fan of gaming - and if my right arm tattoo sleeve doesn't scream that loud enough when we meet, don’t worry, it’ll come up in conversation eventually! My husband and I collect retro consoles and handhelds and I'm sure that if our collection wasn't so cool we would be classed as hoarders.

I was born in the big city of Mackay but spent most of my childhood in a tiny outback town where everyone knew everyone. Really keeps you on the straight and narrow when you can't walk down your street without seeing someone you know.

I moved to Rockhampton once I graduated and began studying a Bachelor of Learning Management and took part in my first high school teaching placement. Teaching highschoolers just wasn't for me, so I decided to try everything and everything in the hopes of finding a job that spoke to my soul. Now on role no. 14 I think I finally have found my dream job.
