How to Choose Bridesmaid Dress Colours That Match Your Wedding Vibe

Choosing bridesmaid dresses can feel like a huge decision. After all, they'll feature in some of your most treasured wedding photos and help set the entire feel of your day.

But here's the thing – there isn't a "right" colour.

The best bridesmaid dresses are the ones that match your vibe!

Garden Weddings

Dreaming of a romantic garden wedding? Soft sage greens, dusty blues, and blush pinks create a timeless, dreamy feel.

Modern & Elegant

Planning something modern and elegant? Champagne, black, and rich emerald tones can add a touch of sophistication and drama.

Boho & Colourful

Love colour? Terracotta, burnt orange, deep plum, and even mismatched palettes can bring so much personality and fun to your day.

As a photographer, I've seen weddings with pretty much every colour imaginable, and honestly? The most beautiful ones are the weddings where couples embrace what feels right for them rather than following trends. 9/10 Weddings the bridesmaids are sporting the bride's favourite colour and I just love that. Imagine being surrounded by your favourite colour for a day, that sounds like a dream come true to me.

Don't be afraid to think outside the box either. Your bridesmaids don't all need to wear the exact same dress. Mismatched styles, varying shades of the same colour, or dresses that complement each person's personality can look absolutely incredible in photos. It also allows for any big busted, short and curvy queens to wear dresses that they feel more comfortable in.

When choosing your colours, think about:

  • Your venue and surroundings
  • The season you're getting married in
  • Your florals and styling
  • Colours you genuinely love
  • The overall atmosphere you want your guests to feel

Most importantly, remember that your wedding should look and feel like you. Whether that's classic black gowns, romantic pastels, earthy tones, or bold pops of colour, there are no rules. And if you're feeling overwhelmed, visit a few local bridal businesses and try things on. Sometimes the colour you never considered ends up being the one you fall completely in love with.

Because at the end of the day, the best colour palette isn't the one that's trending on Pinterest – it's the one that makes you smile every time you look back at your photos.
